Handmade in the Foothills of the North Georgia Mountains
In 2011, I married my Mountain Man and finally found my country girl roots. Since we met, we’ve been climbing mountains and hiking down dusty dirt roads. In our explorations, we’ve found beauty beyond measure! I don’t go anywhere without a few Ziploc bags or a bucket, because wherever we are something always catches my eye, whether it’s a half-eaten hickory nut or some Wild Mountain Mint.
I’ve also indulged an interest in soap making, starting from the wild deer and pig fat from my Mountain Man’s hunting successes. I tried making my own lye from fireplace ashes, and did make a weak version of lye water, but so far it hasn’t been strong enough to convert oil into soap.
I purchase the vegetable oils in the soap. But the tallow used in the tallow bars, was purified and processed from nature. All of those little extras in the soaps – the rose petals, dried lavender, lemon balm, the red clay, etc. – were mostly from our yard or picked up on our hikes. I am so thrilled to have found a way to share some of the beauty we’ve found. I may not know you, but I thought of you and what you might enjoy as I was making the soap.
For as long as I can remember I’ve been interested in making soap, but it wasn’t until recent years that I’ve had time to pursue the interest. I can tell you this, I wasn’t disappointed. It was just as fascinating as I imagined. And, I haven’t run out of ideas of things to create. Oh, new products do not always work out, but if it was easy, everyone would be doing it! One of the days I SHALL master Liquid Soap!! - even though my attempts to date say otherwise!
As I said, it’s been a very interesting and endless road of discovery. And, then, my Mountain Man gave me my very own still to obtain hydrosol (a plant’s essence not as strong as essential oil). From there, I researched how to use it in the process of binding water to oil to make lotion.
I’ve learned how to make a very nice all-natural deodorant. Then, there are the butters, scrubs, lip balm and Men’s Grooming Products. Most recently, I’ve added Laundry Soap and Toilet Tabs to the product line. As far as I’m concerned, those little toilet tabs are the best kept secret ever!!!
I hope you will try the products, but more importantly, I hope you like them. Because if you like them, you will buy them and then I get to spend a very pleasant day in my soap shed making more.
