Sarah Mays-Salin’s award winning hand-woven and hand-dyed textiles feature traditional ikat technique contrasted with hi-tech digital Jacquard elements capturing drawn and photographed.
Textile designs are sourced from original drawings focusing on the small details of nature; inspirational plants, flowers, produce, animals, and insects. These bits of life suggest patterns, inspire dye technique and woven structures.
Sarah has been making textiles since childhood and has been a professional fine artist/ craftsperson for over 25 years, winning awards and entrance into the American Craft Council Fine Craft Shows.
Sarah states: Drawing is integral to my process as an artist and a human. While my art eventually takes form as a woven textile, inspirations are always first captured from my imagination as drawing. The drawing is a vital recording of an otherwise forgotten moment, a waking dream.
